Why is regular toothpaste bad for you?

I heard you can get bad breath from regular toothpaste, but I am using Colgate? I notice it has Soduim lauryn S .and flourdin that they warn me about. Can you please give me the names of harash chemicals (ingredients) ,so I watch out?
