Will Gamestop take my PS2 trade-in?

I went to go trade in my PS2 and the guy there said he couldnt take the system without a controller (the one i had with the system had a mangled joystick) i have one other controller at my house but its a wireless MadCatz brand Pittsburgh Steelers controller if i brought in my PS2 with this would they take it?
