Meeting someone off myspace. Please read!?

I started talking to this guy off myspace. We swapped phone numbers and have talked a couple of times. Last weekend we talked about meeting. His proposition was that we meet at his place at like 10 PM and hang out there then out into the city and drink. He said he could pick me up so I wouldn't have to drive. Uhhhh...this struck me as creepy. I told him I'd rather meet him during the day someplace other than his house. That night he called me at like 2 AM, and was absolutely begging me to go to his house and kick it. I said no of course. I told him it just wouldn't be a smart thing for me to do and if he couldn't understand that, then it was his loss. Did I do the right thing? Now I wonder if things would be different if I'd took a chance and met up with him...
